Moving In . . . . . . And Donating Blood

I mentioned in my previous post that I would put up pictures of my room since I was supposed to be moving in on Sunday. As promised, here they are:

The front door. My room is Harstad 408, south wing, right next to the kitchen!

Me, filling out forms and checking out to see if anything is damaged.

My closet is really big, but it doesn't have a door, so I have to get some kind of curtains or something to cover the opening.

The bed are is really amazing! It makes the room look like a French Attic kind of a room. The ceiling above the bed is slanted and it makes the bed into a cozy corner or niche. It's really cool!

The view outside my window. I can see the UC and there is a skylight in the UC through which I can see some of the flags that hang in the lobby. I can people watch and see all kinds of crazy stuff that people do!

Me filling out papers again. This is the front door and the entryway into the room.

Miguel, taking a picture of the mirror, but he forgot that a mirror reflects!

I really like the extra shelf that I have here! Most of my textbooks don't even fit into the bookshelf because they're too tall. I like that both of the shelves are white, it makes the room look neat and clean.

My helper for the day! Thank you Miguel! He carried practically everything from the storage and from my car! Thank you! I didn't bring too much stuff because I live close by and will be going home each day, so I can bring more stuff periodically.

The Harstad RHC! (Those of us that are here. Lorna's not back yet and Shelby and Shelly are not in the picture) The t-shirts this year rock! And our hall identifiers are leis! Totally cool. I will take pictures during move-in day for freshman when we're all wearing our "uniforms"!

Donating Blood

Today I went to donate blood. I mentioned before that my grandmother had amputation. Well, during the surgery she lost a lot of blood and afterward she was and still is very weak. The doctor wanted to do a blood transfusion, but my mom was uncertain because last time grandma had blood transfusion, she had a reaction. We talked to the doctor and she checked grandma's blood type and she's the same blood type as I am. So we figured if the blood was from a family member, it would be safer. So we did the paperwork naming me as my grandma's donor and I did a direct donation. I actually had to pay $225 to donate blood! Well, that's not a big deal, but I guess it's because I want the blood to go to a specific person in the least amount of time. I had some trouble scheduling the appointment because I had to pay before I donated and the business office of the blood center wasn't working yesterday because of Labor Day, so I went today. I was really worried about my hemoglobin level and ate iron rich foods the last few days, but it was good. I was really glad! I had to go to the Central Seattle location of the Puget Sound Blood Center. There was so much road construction going on!

This is the entrance to the blood center. It's on corner of Terry Ave and Madison St, right across from a hotel.

It has some nice plants out front!

This is really cool! I call it the "Tree of Life". Most of the name plates are blank, but the ones in the center are to honor people who have donated 100 units or more of blood. One unit is one pint, so that's a lot of blood!

Close up of the 100 unit donors. There are different colored plates and they honor people who have donated 200, 300 and 400 units. Pink is 200 and blue is 300. There is also one blue that is 400 units!
